Construction Updates

October 6, 2016

The temporary bridge has been removed and construction is nearing completion.  Other recent activities included site cleanup, landscaping, signage, and deck striping.  The opening for the bridge is planned for October 14, 2016.

July 12, 2016

Construction activities have slowed considerably due to the limited remaining activities.  All the new concrete decks have been placed and railing installation has begun.  Painting continues to be a primary activity and is approximately 60% complete.

The site is very active.  Iron workers have completed the gusset plate connection repairs and reconstruction of the 4 piers in the lake.  The first two concrete decks have been placed and crews are placing the third span deck today.  Painting crews have begun the process of enclosing the entire first span for sandblasting and repainting.

  • Span 1 temporary enclosure is being installed for containment during painting operations.

March 29, 2016

Construction is progressing well.  Iron workers have completed approximately 60 percent of the gusset plate connection repairs and have begun preparations for placing of the concrete deck on spans 1 and 2. Piers 1, 2, and 3 have been reconstructed and crews are working on piers 4 and 5.

February 12, 2016

Construction activity is very high despite the fairly cold temperatures lately.  Iron workers have completed approximately 20 percent of the gusset plate connection repairs and much of the required heat straightening of the truss members. Pier 1 has been poured and is being cured using insulated blankets.

Construction of the temporary bridge support system is complete for the first span and is continuing into span two and three.  Span one has been lifted from its supports and a temporary floor has been installed to facilitate the necessary repairs.

November 10, 2015

Construction of the temporary bridge is complete and installation of a temporary bridge support system has started on span 1.  The temporary support system will allow the existing bridge to be lifted off the supports.  Once raised, various repairs to the bridge and it’s foundations can proceed.

  • Paint color sample for review by project historian for match of original color.

October 13, 2015:

Construction is continuing on the temporary bridge.  The Contractor has completed four of the five spans to cross the lake and is utilizing two large mobile cranes. Crews are continuing work on removing the existing timber deck and steel floor framing. Foundations for the temporary shoring towers are also being installed on each side of the bridge.

  • Concrete Test Panel
A concrete test panel is being pressure washed and inspected to confirm “historic look” is reproduced properly. Bridge will be formed rough sawn boards similar to the original construction

Construction resumed on July 27, 2015 after successful relocation of the fiber optic cable. Bridge crews are currently working on a temporary bridge that will parallel the existing bridge and provide crane access for the rehabilitation. Temporary bridge construction will continue into the winter and rehabilitation activities will follow.

June 10, 2015:

Construction progress is delayed several weeks. During utility relocation, a Century Link fiber snapped during drilling to place the fiber. This means the fiber rods had to be removed and the drilling restarted.
